Movie Conventions: Murder on the Orient Express

Genre Research: Murder on the Orient Express

  • What conventions of the genre that you chose to base your final task on does this movie have?
Conventions of the genre I chose to be on the final task based on the movie Murder on the Orient Express is close-ups and wide shots. These shots were used a lot in this film. The close-ups shots were used for characters reactions and the wide shots were used for scenic views. I decided to use these conventions on the final tasks because these shots of specific details can help with showing the audience that the genre is mystery.
  • What conventions of the genre did the movie have that you liked?
Conventions of the genre that I liked were the lightning and the costumes. The lighting in the movie was often a combination of natural and artificial light to achieve specific effects on the mood and the overall atmosphere in the movie. The costumes in the movie represent the period the story was set in. It helped bring the story to life and distinguish the characters in the movie.

  • What conventions of the genre did the movie have that did not appeal to you and you are thinking of not filming for your final task?
Conventions of the genre the movie Murder on the Orient Express did not appeal to me was the sound bridge. This would be hard for me to incorporate in my opening sequence only because I had a short amount of time. I feel like sound bridges are used for longer scenes and not the opening sequence. Therefore, is why I decided to not use this convention in my final task.

Finding music and adding it to the opening sequence

On February 28 I was finding the music to use for my opening sequence. For my opening sequence, I needed to use copyright-free music. I was able to find some on YouTube that were copyright-free by searching for them. I needed to find an upbeat and cheerful song to use for the beginning of the opening sequence when the main character is listening to music. So, the first thing I searched for was copyright-free music for pop. The song that I found and used was Royalty Free uploaded by a YouTube channel that allows them to use their music as long as you give them credit. I used the "BreakingCopyright" YouTube channel's "Crazy About You" song for the beginning of my opening sequence. Another song that I used that was able to be free was "Mystery 7 Suspense Background Music for Films & Documentaries" by the YouTube channel "LVKEHOUSE" which allows anyone to use these sounds without any copyright claims. To find the mysterious sound effects I w...

Doing a film review + adding changes to it

On March 11 I had my sister do a film review of my opening sequence. My sister reviewed it and said that she liked the beginning shot and the music chosen for the beginning of the opening sequence. However, she did make a few suggestions to change the lightning to make it have a more mysterious vibe. So, one of the first changes I made was to adjust the lighting to darker. To do this I clicked on my opening sequence went to the bottom of the options and chose "adjust". With these options, I was able to adjust my lighting to make it have a more mysterious vibe. She also suggested to increase the volume of the main character talking because she couldn't understand what she said in the opening sequence. I went into CapCut to fix these by increasing the volume on the parts where the main character is speaking. To do this I clicked on the audio of the scene where she was talking and there was an option to increase the volume so, I just adjusted the volume to higher to make su...
